Genealogy Research and Vital Records in Marche and Umbria, Italy
Italian Birth, Marriage and Death Records and On-Site Genealogy Research in Marche and Umbria
Marche and Umbria, located in central Italy, are important regions for genealogical and family history research. I provide professional on-site research throughout both regions, helping clients locate Italian birth, marriage, and death records, historical family records, and other documents relating to their Italian ancestors.
Research may involve municipal Civil Registration Offices (Uffici dello Stato Civile), Registry Offices (Uffici Anagrafe), State Archives, diocesan archives, and local parishes, depending on the period and the type of record required.
I can assist with obtaining official birth, marriage, and death records from municipalities throughout the Marche provinces of Ancona, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata, and Pesaro and Urbino, as well as the Umbrian provinces of Perugia and Terni. I also conduct genealogical research when records are not available online or when identifying the correct municipality, parish, or historical jurisdiction requires additional investigation.
These records may be required for Italian citizenship applications, genealogy and family history research, probate and inheritance matters, or other administrative and legal purposes.
Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Ancona
I provide professional genealogy research and assistance in obtaining birth, marriage, and death records from municipalities throughout the Province of Ancona.
Civil registration records are generally held by the municipality where the event was registered. For earlier generations, research may also involve the State Archives, diocesan archives, and local parish registers.
Municipalities in the Province of Ancona
Agugliano, Ancona, Arcevia, Barbara, Belvedere Ostrense, Camerano, Camerata Picena, Castelbellino, Castelfidardo, Castelleone di Suasa, Castelplanio, Cerreto d'Esi, Chiaravalle, Corinaldo, Cupramontana, Fabriano, Falconara Marittima, Filottrano, Genga, Jesi, Loreto, Maiolati Spontini, Mergo, Monsano, Montecarotto, Montemarciano, Monte Roberto, Monte San Vito, Morro d'Alba, Numana, Offagna, Osimo, Ostra, Ostra Vetere, Poggio San Marcello, Polverigi, Rosora, San Marcello, San Paolo di Jesi, Santa Maria Nuova, Sassoferrato, Senigallia, Serra de' Conti, Serra San Quirico, Sirolo, Staffolo, and Trecastelli.
Former Municipalities and Historical Localities in the Province of Ancona
The Province of Ancona has undergone a number of municipal and administrative changes that can be important for genealogical research. Older civil registration, parish, and archival records may therefore refer to former municipalities or historical locality names rather than to the present-day municipality.
Trecastelli was established in 2014 through the merger of the former municipalities of Castel Colonna, Monterado, and Ripe. Genealogical records relating to earlier generations should therefore be searched under these former municipal names.
Other historical municipal changes may also affect the location and classification of civil, parish, military, and archival records. When researching an ancestor, it is therefore important to identify the municipality and administrative jurisdiction that existed at the time of the birth, marriage, or death.
Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Ascoli Piceno
I provide professional genealogy research and assistance in obtaining birth, marriage, and death records from municipalities throughout the Province of Ascoli Piceno.
Civil registration records are generally held by the municipality where the event was registered. For earlier generations, research may also involve the State Archives, diocesan archives, and local parish registers.
Municipalities in the Province of Ascoli Piceno
Acquasanta Terme, Acquaviva Picena, Appignano del Tronto, Arquata del Tronto, Ascoli Piceno, Carassai, Castel di Lama, Castignano, Castorano, Colli del Tronto, Comunanza, Cossignano, Cupra Marittima, Folignano, Force, Grottammare, Maltignano, Massignano, Monsampolo del Tronto, Montalto delle Marche, Montedinove, Montefiore dell'Aso, Montegallo, Montemonaco, Monteprandone, Offida, Palmiano, Ripatransone, Roccafluvione, Rotella, San Benedetto del Tronto, Spinetoli, and Venarotta.
Historical Provincial Jurisdictions in the Province of Ascoli Piceno
The historical territory of the Province of Ascoli Piceno was considerably larger than it is today. The creation of the Province of Fermo changed the provincial jurisdiction of many municipalities that had previously belonged to Ascoli Piceno.
This administrative change is particularly important for genealogical research. Birth, marriage, death, military, and other historical records concerning families from municipalities now located in the Province of Fermo may still be preserved or catalogued within archival collections associated with Ascoli Piceno.
Researchers should therefore consider both the present-day province and the provincial jurisdiction that existed at the time the record was created. This can be especially important when researching records from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Fermo
I provide professional genealogy research and assistance in obtaining birth, marriage, and death records from municipalities throughout the Province of Fermo.
Civil registration records are generally held by the municipality where the event was registered. For earlier generations, research may also involve the State Archives, diocesan archives, and local parish registers.
Municipalities in the Province of Fermo
Altidona, Amandola, Belmonte Piceno, Campofilone, Falerone, Fermo, Francavilla d'Ete, Grottazzolina, Lapedona, Magliano di Tenna, Massa Fermana, Monsampietro Morico, Montappone, Montefalcone Appennino, Montefortino, Monte Giberto, Montegiorgio, Montegranaro, Monteleone di Fermo, Monte Rinaldo, Monte San Pietrangeli, Monte Urano, Monte Vidon Combatte, Monte Vidon Corrado, Montelparo, Monterubbiano, Montottone, Moresco, Ortezzano, Pedaso, Petritoli, Ponzano di Fermo, Porto San Giorgio, Porto Sant'Elpidio, Rapagnano, Santa Vittoria in Matenano, Sant'Elpidio a Mare, Servigliano, Smerillo, and Torre San Patrizio.
Historical Provincial Jurisdictions in the Province of Fermo
The Province of Fermo is relatively recent. Its municipalities historically belonged to the Province of Ascoli Piceno, and this earlier administrative jurisdiction is particularly important for genealogical research.
Birth, marriage, death, military, and other historical records created before the establishment of the Province of Fermo may therefore be preserved or catalogued within archival collections associated with Ascoli Piceno.
Researchers should consider both the present-day Province of Fermo and the historical Province of Ascoli Piceno when locating records relating to earlier generations. The municipality and provincial jurisdiction in use at the time of the event can be essential for identifying the correct civil, parish, military, or archival source.
Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Macerata
I provide professional genealogy research and assistance in obtaining birth, marriage, and death records from municipalities throughout the Province of Macerata.

Former Municipalities and Historical Localities in the Province of Macerata
The Province of Macerata has undergone municipal and administrative changes that can be important for genealogical research. Older civil registration, parish, and archival records may therefore refer to former municipalities or historical locality names rather than to the present-day municipality.
Acquacanina was formerly an independent municipality and became part of the Municipality of Fiastra in 2017. Genealogical records relating to earlier generations from Acquacanina may therefore be preserved or catalogued under the former municipality rather than under Fiastra.
Other historical changes in municipal names, boundaries, and jurisdictions may also affect the location of civil, parish, military, and archival records. When researching ancestors from the Province of Macerata, it is therefore important to consider the municipality and administrative jurisdiction that existed at the time of the event.
Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino
I provide professional genealogy research and assistance in obtaining birth, marriage, and death records from municipalities throughout the Province of Pesaro and Urbino.
Civil registration records are generally held by the municipality where the event was registered. For earlier generations, research may also involve the State Archives, diocesan archives, and local parish registers.

Former Municipalities and Historical Administrative Changes in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino
The Province of Pesaro and Urbino has undergone several important municipal and territorial changes that can affect genealogical research. Older civil registration, parish, military, and archival records may therefore be catalogued under former municipalities or under a different provincial jurisdiction.
Vallefoglia was created in 2014 through the merger of the former municipalities of Colbordolo and Sant'Angelo in Lizzola. Terre Roveresche was created in 2017 through the merger of Barchi, Orciano di Pesaro, Piagge, and San Giorgio di Pesaro. Colli al Metauro was also created in 2017 through the merger of Montemaggiore al Metauro, Saltara, and Serrungarina. Sassocorvaro Auditore was created in 2019 through the merger of Sassocorvaro and Auditore.
Monteciccardo was formerly an independent municipality and became part of the Municipality of Pesaro in 2020. Genealogical records concerning earlier generations may therefore still be identified under Monteciccardo.
Montecopiolo and Sassofeltrio historically belonged to the Province of Pesaro and Urbino and the Marche region but were transferred to the Province of Rimini in Emilia-Romagna in 2021. They are therefore no longer municipalities of the Marche region, although older genealogical and administrative records may still be associated with Pesaro and Urbino.
Earlier territorial changes also affected several municipalities of the historic Montefeltro and Alta Valmarecchia areas. When researching ancestors from this part of Italy, it is therefore particularly important to identify the municipality, province, and region that had jurisdiction at the time the record was created.
Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Perugia
I provide professional genealogy research and assistance in obtaining birth, marriage, and death records from municipalities throughout the Province of Perugia.
Civil registration records are generally held by the municipality where the event was registered. For earlier generations, research may also involve the State Archives, diocesan archives, and local parish registers.
Municipalities in the Province of Perugia
Assisi, Bastia Umbra, Bettona, Bevagna, Campello sul Clitunno, Cannara, Cascia, Castel Ritaldi, Castiglione del Lago, Cerreto di Spoleto, Citerna, Città della Pieve, Città di Castello, Collazzone, Corciano, Costacciaro, Deruta, Foligno, Fossato di Vico, Fratta Todina, Giano dell'Umbria, Gualdo Cattaneo, Gualdo Tadino, Gubbio, Lisciano Niccone, Magione, Marsciano, Massa Martana, Monte Castello di Vibio, Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, Montefalco, Monteleone di Spoleto, Montone, Nocera Umbra, Norcia, Paciano, Panicale, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Perugia, Piegaro, Pietralunga, Poggiodomo, Preci, San Giustino, Sant'Anatolia di Narco, Scheggia e Pascelupo, Scheggino, Sellano, Sigillo, Spello, Spoleto, Todi, Torgiano, Trevi, Tuoro sul Trasimeno, Umbertide, Valfabbrica, and Vallo di Nera.
Former Municipalities and Historical Localities in the Province of Perugia
The Province of Perugia has undergone a number of municipal, territorial, and administrative changes that can be important for genealogical research. Older civil registration, parish, military, and archival records may therefore refer to historical municipality names or jurisdictions that differ from those used today.
Several present-day municipalities also include villages and historical localities that may appear in older records instead of the name of the municipality. This is particularly relevant in rural and mountainous areas, where parish records may have been maintained locally even when civil registration was administered by a larger municipality.
The creation of the Province of Terni in the twentieth century also changed the provincial jurisdiction of part of Umbria. Historical records concerning places now located in the Province of Terni may therefore appear in collections organized according to earlier administrative boundaries.
When researching ancestors from Umbria, identifying the exact locality, municipality, parish, and administrative jurisdiction in use at the time of the event can therefore be essential for locating the correct record.
Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Terni
I provide professional genealogy research and assistance in obtaining birth, marriage, and death records from municipalities throughout the Province of Terni.
Civil registration records are generally held by the municipality where the event was registered. For earlier generations, research may also involve the State Archives, diocesan archives, and local parish registers.
Municipalities in the Province of Terni

Historical Provincial Jurisdictions in the Province of Terni
The Province of Terni was established in 1927 from territory that had previously formed part of the Province of Perugia. This administrative change is particularly important for genealogical and historical research.
Birth, marriage, death, military, and other records created before the establishment of the Province of Terni may therefore be preserved or catalogued according to the earlier provincial jurisdiction of Perugia.
Historical records may also refer to localities, villages, or parish jurisdictions rather than to the present-day municipality. When researching ancestors from the Province of Terni, it is therefore important to consider both the current municipality and the administrative or ecclesiastical jurisdiction that existed at the time of the event.
Genealogy and Historical Records in Marche and Umbria
Genealogical research in Marche and Umbria may involve much more than civil birth, marriage, and death records. Depending on the period, locality, and research objective, additional sources may include historical family records, population registers, military records, parish registers, and archival documents.
When records are not available online, I can conduct on-site research and help identify the municipality, archive, parish, or other repository where the relevant records may be preserved.
Research may involve State Archives and other archival repositories serving Ancona, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata, Pesaro and Urbino, Perugia, and Terni, as well as municipal archives, diocesan archives, and local parishes.
