Genealogy Research and Vital Records in Veneto, Italy

Italian Birth, Marriage and Death Records and On-Site Genealogy Research in Veneto

Veneto is one of the most important regions of northern Italy for genealogical and family history research. I provide professional on-site research throughout Veneto, helping clients locate Italian birth, marriage, and death records, historical family records, and other documents relating to their Italian ancestors.

Research may involve municipal Civil Registration Offices (Uffici dello Stato Civile), Registry Offices (Uffici Anagrafe), State Archives, diocesan archives, and local parishes, depending on the period and the type of record required.

I can assist with obtaining official birth, marriage, and death records from municipalities throughout the provinces of Belluno, Padua (Padova), Rovigo, Treviso, Venice (Venezia), Verona, and Vicenza. I also conduct genealogical research when records are not available online or when identifying the correct municipality, parish, or historical jurisdiction requires additional investigation.

These records may be required for Italian citizenship applications, genealogy and family history research, probate and inheritance matters, or other administrative and legal purposes.

Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Belluno

I provide professional genealogy and family history research throughout the Province of Belluno, including on-site research when records are not available online.

Birth, marriage, and death records may be held by the Civil Registration Office (Ufficio dello Stato Civile) of the municipality where the event was registered. Depending on the period and the type of research, additional records may also be found in municipal archives, State Archives, diocesan archives, and local parishes.

I can assist with locating and obtaining Italian birth, marriage, and death certificates, extracts, and full copies of civil records, as well as historical family records and other documents useful for genealogy, Italian citizenship, probate, inheritance, and family history research.

Municipalities in the Province of Belluno

The Province of Belluno includes the following municipalities:

Agordo, Alleghe, Alpago, Arsiè, Auronzo di Cadore, Belluno, Borca di Cadore, Borgo Valbelluna, Calalzo di Cadore, Canale d'Agordo, Cencenighe Agordino, Cesiomaggiore, Chies d'Alpago, Cibiana di Cadore, Colle Santa Lucia, Comelico Superiore, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Danta di Cadore, Domegge di Cadore, Falcade, Feltre, Fonzaso, Gosaldo, La Valle Agordina, Lamon, Limana, Livinallongo del Col di Lana, Longarone, Lorenzago di Cadore, Lozzo di Cadore, Ospitale di Cadore, Pedavena, Perarolo di Cadore, Pieve di Cadore, Ponte nelle Alpi, Rivamonte Agordino, Rocca Pietore, San Gregorio nelle Alpi, San Nicolò di Comelico, San Pietro di Cadore, San Tomaso Agordino, San Vito di Cadore, Santa Giustina, Santo Stefano di Cadore, Sedico, Selva di Cadore, Seren del Grappa, Setteville, Sospirolo, Soverzene, Sovramonte, Taibon Agordino, Tambre, Val di Zoldo, Vallada Agordina, Valle di Cadore, Vigo di Cadore, Vodo di Cadore, Voltago Agordino, and Zoppè di Cadore.

Former Municipalities and Municipal Changes in the Province of Belluno

Historical administrative changes are particularly important in genealogy. An ancestor's record may have been created under the name of a municipality that no longer exists as an independent Comune. In these cases, identifying the present municipality and the historical jurisdiction can be essential for locating the original civil or archival record.

Several important municipal changes have taken place in the Province of Belluno:

Alpago – The present municipality of Alpago was established in 2016 through the merger of the former municipalities of Farra d'Alpago, Pieve d'Alpago, and Puos d'Alpago.

Borgo Valbelluna – The municipality of Borgo Valbelluna was established in 2019 through the merger of the former municipalities of Lentiai, Mel, and Trichiana.

Longarone – The present municipality of Longarone was established in 2014 through the merger of the former municipalities of Longarone and Castellavazzo. Historical records may therefore still refer to Castellavazzo as an independent municipality.

Val di Zoldo – The municipality of Val di Zoldo was established in 2016 through the merger of the former municipalities of Forno di Zoldo and Zoldo Alto.

Setteville – The municipality of Setteville was established in 2024 through the merger of Alano di Piave and Quero Vas. Quero Vas itself had been established in 2013 through the merger of the former municipalities of Quero and Vas. For genealogical research, records may therefore appear under Alano di Piave, Quero Vas, Quero, or Vas depending on the historical period.

These changes can affect where historical birth, marriage, death, residence, and family records are preserved today. When necessary, I can identify the correct present-day municipality or archive responsible for records created under a former municipality.

Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Padua (Padova)

I provide professional genealogy and family history research throughout the Province of Padua (Padova), including on-site research when records are not available online.

Birth, marriage, and death records may be held by the Civil Registration Office (Ufficio dello Stato Civile) of the municipality where the event was registered. Depending on the period and the type of research, additional records may also be found in municipal archives, the State Archives of Padua, diocesan archives, and local parishes.

I can assist with locating and obtaining Italian birth, marriage, and death certificates, extracts, and full copies of civil records, as well as historical family records, military records, parish records, and other documents useful for genealogy, Italian citizenship, probate, inheritance, and family history research.

Municipalities in the Province of Padua

The Province of Padua includes the following municipalities:

Abano Terme, Agna, Albignasego, Anguillara Veneta, Arquà Petrarca, Arre, Arzergrande, Bagnoli di Sopra, Baone, Barbona, Battaglia Terme, Boara Pisani, Borgo Veneto, Borgoricco, Bovolenta, Brugine, Cadoneghe, Campo San Martino, Campodarsego, Campodoro, Camposampiero, Candiana, Carmignano di Brenta, Cartura, Casale di Scodosia, Casalserugo, Castelbaldo, Cervarese Santa Croce, Cinto Euganeo, Cittadella, Codevigo, Conselve, Correzzola, Curtarolo, Due Carrare, Este, Fontaniva, Galliera Veneta, Galzignano Terme, Gazzo, Grantorto, Granze, Legnaro, Limena, Loreggia, Lozzo Atestino, Maserà di Padova, Masi, Massanzago, Megliadino San Vitale, Merlara, Mestrino, Monselice, Montagnana, Montegrotto Terme, Noventa Padovana, Ospedaletto Euganeo, Padua (Padova), Pernumia, Piacenza d'Adige, Piazzola sul Brenta, Piombino Dese, Piove di Sacco, Polverara, Ponso, Ponte San Nicolò, Pontelongo, Pozzonovo, Rovolon, Rubano, Saccolongo, San Giorgio delle Pertiche, San Giorgio in Bosco, San Martino di Lupari, San Pietro in Gu, San Pietro Viminario, Santa Caterina d'Este, Santa Giustina in Colle, Sant'Angelo di Piove di Sacco, Sant'Elena, Sant'Urbano, Saonara, Selvazzano Dentro, Solesino, Stanghella, Teolo, Terrassa Padovana, Tombolo, Torreglia, Trebaseleghe, Tribano, Urbana, Veggiano, Vescovana, Vigodarzere, Vigonza, Villa del Conte, Villa Estense, Villafranca Padovana, Villanova di Camposampiero, and Vo'.

Former Municipalities and Municipal Changes in the Province of Padua

Historical changes in municipal boundaries and names can be particularly important in genealogical research. A birth, marriage, or death record may have been registered in a municipality that no longer exists under the same name or that has subsequently been incorporated into another municipality.

Some important municipal changes in the Province of Padua include:

Borgo Veneto – The municipality of Borgo Veneto was established in 2018 through the merger of the former municipalities of Megliadino San Fidenzio, Saletto, and Santa Margherita d'Adige. Historical civil records may therefore still be registered under any of these former municipalities.

Due Carrare – The municipality of Due Carrare was established in 1995 through the merger of the former municipalities of Carrara San Giorgio and Carrara Santo Stefano. Researchers working with older records should therefore consider both former municipal names.

Santa Caterina d'Este – The municipality was known as Carceri until its name was changed to Santa Caterina d'Este in 2023. Historical records and older genealogical sources may therefore identify the municipality as Carceri.

Other historical records may contain former spellings, older municipal designations, or references to localities whose administrative jurisdiction has changed over time. Correctly identifying the municipality responsible for a historical record is often essential before requesting documents or conducting archival research.

When necessary, I can determine the appropriate present-day municipality, archive, or parish responsible for records relating to an ancestor whose place of birth, marriage, residence, or death appears under an older geographical or administrative name.

Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Rovigo

I provide professional genealogy and family history research throughout the Province of Rovigo, including on-site research when records are not available online.

Birth, marriage, and death records may be held by the Civil Registration Office (Ufficio dello Stato Civile) of the municipality where the event was registered. Depending on the period and the type of research, additional records may also be found in municipal archives, the State Archives of Rovigo, diocesan archives, and local parishes.

I can assist with locating and obtaining Italian birth, marriage, and death certificates, extracts, and full copies of civil records, as well as historical family records, military records, parish records, and other documents useful for genealogy, Italian citizenship, probate, inheritance, and family history research.

Municipalities in the Province of Rovigo

The Province of Rovigo includes the following municipalities:

Adria, Ariano nel Polesine, Arquà Polesine, Badia Polesine, Bagnolo di Po, Bergantino, Bosaro, Calto, Canaro, Canda, Castelguglielmo, Castelmassa, Castelnovo Bariano, Ceneselli, Ceregnano, Corbola, Costa di Rovigo, Crespino, Ficarolo, Fiesso Umbertiano, Frassinelle Polesine, Fratta Polesine, Gaiba, Gavello, Giacciano con Baruchella, Guarda Veneta, Lendinara, Loreo, Lusia, Melara, Occhiobello, Papozze, Pettorazza Grimani, Pincara, Polesella, Pontecchio Polesine, Porto Tolle, Porto Viro, Rosolina, Rovigo, Salara, San Bellino, San Martino di Venezze, Stienta, Taglio di Po, Trecenta, Villadose, Villamarzana, Villanova del Ghebbo, and Villanova Marchesana.

Former Municipalities and Municipal Changes in the Province of Rovigo

Historical municipal names and administrative changes are important in genealogical research because older civil, military, parish, and family records may identify a place under a name that is no longer used as an independent municipality.

Porto Viro – The present municipality of Porto Viro was established on January 1, 1995, through the merger of the former municipalities of Contarina and Donada. Genealogical and civil records created before the merger may therefore be registered under either Contarina or Donada rather than Porto Viro.

The names Contarina and Donada remain particularly important when researching families from the Porto Viro area because they may appear in older birth, marriage, death, residence, military, and parish records.

Historical records from the Polesine area may also contain references to localities and geographical names associated with the Po Delta. Correctly identifying whether a place was an independent municipality, a locality, or part of another municipality at the time of an event can be essential for locating the appropriate civil or archival record.

When necessary, I can identify the correct present-day municipality, archive, or parish responsible for records relating to an ancestor whose place of birth, marriage, residence, or death appears under an older geographical or administrative name.

Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Treviso

I provide professional genealogy and family history research throughout the Province of Treviso, including on-site research when records are not available online.

Birth, marriage, and death records may be held by the Civil Registration Office (Ufficio dello Stato Civile) of the municipality where the event was registered. Depending on the period and the type of research, additional records may also be found in municipal archives, the State Archives of Treviso, diocesan archives, and local parishes.

I can assist with locating and obtaining Italian birth, marriage, and death certificates, extracts, and full copies of civil records, as well as historical family records, military records, parish records, and other documents useful for genealogy, Italian citizenship, probate, inheritance, and family history research.

Municipalities in the Province of Treviso

The Province of Treviso includes the following municipalities:

Altivole, Arcade, Asolo, Borso del Grappa, Breda di Piave, Caerano di San Marco, Cappella Maggiore, Carbonera, Casale sul Sile, Casier, Castelcucco, Castelfranco Veneto, Castello di Godego, Cavaso del Tomba, Cessalto, Chiarano, Cimadolmo, Cison di Valmarino, Codognè, Colle Umberto, Conegliano, Cordignano, Cornuda, Crocetta del Montello, Farra di Soligo, Follina, Fontanelle, Fonte, Fregona, Gaiarine, Giavera del Montello, Godega di Sant'Urbano, Gorgo al Monticano, Istrana, Loria, Mansuè, Mareno di Piave, Maser, Maserada sul Piave, Meduna di Livenza, Miane, Mogliano Veneto, Monastier di Treviso, Monfumo, Montebelluna, Morgano, Moriago della Battaglia, Motta di Livenza, Nervesa della Battaglia, Oderzo, Ormelle, Orsago, Paese, Pederobba, Pieve del Grappa, Pieve di Soligo, Ponte di Piave, Ponzano Veneto, Portobuffolè, Possagno, Povegliano, Preganziol, Quinto di Treviso, Refrontolo, Resana, Revine Lago, Riese Pio X, Roncade, Salgareda, San Biagio di Callalta, San Fior, San Pietro di Feletto, San Polo di Piave, San Vendemiano, San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Santa Lucia di Piave, Sarmede, Segusino, Sernaglia della Battaglia, Silea, Spresiano, Susegana, Tarzo, Trevignano, Treviso, Valdobbiadene, Vazzola, Vedelago, Vidor, Villorba, Vittorio Veneto, Volpago del Montello, Zenson di Piave, and Zero Branco.

Former Municipalities and Municipal Changes in the Province of Treviso

Historical municipal names and administrative changes are particularly important in genealogical research. Older birth, marriage, death, residence, military, and parish records may refer to municipalities or geographical names that are different from those used today.

Pieve del Grappa – The municipality of Pieve del Grappa was established in 2019 through the merger of the former municipalities of Crespano del Grappa and Paderno del Grappa. Genealogical records created before the merger may therefore be registered under either of these former municipalities.

Vittorio Veneto – The present city of Vittorio Veneto has an especially important historical administrative background for genealogical research. It was created in the nineteenth century through the union of the former municipalities of Ceneda and Serravalle. Older civil, parish, notarial, and archival records may therefore identify an ancestor's place of origin as Ceneda or Serravalle rather than Vittorio Veneto.

Crocetta del Montello – Historical records may use the former municipal name Crocetta Trevigiana, which was subsequently changed to Crocetta del Montello. Researchers should therefore consider both names when identifying older records.

Moriago della Battaglia – Historical documents may refer simply to Moriago, the earlier name of the municipality before the addition of “della Battaglia.”

Nervesa della Battaglia – Older records may similarly refer to the municipality as Nervesa, before the present designation “della Battaglia” was adopted.

Sernaglia della Battaglia – Historical sources may contain the shorter name Sernaglia, used before the municipality adopted its present name.

Changes in municipal names and jurisdictions can affect where historical records are preserved and how places are identified in indexes, civil registers, parish registers, military records, and other archival sources.

When necessary, I can identify the correct present-day municipality, archive, or parish responsible for records relating to an ancestor whose place of birth, marriage, residence, or death appears under an older geographical or administrative name.

Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Venice (Venezia)

I provide professional genealogy and family history research throughout the Province of Venice (Venezia), now officially the Metropolitan City of Venice, including on-site research when records are not available online.

Birth, marriage, and death records may be held by the Civil Registration Office (Ufficio dello Stato Civile) of the municipality where the event was registered. Depending on the period and the type of research, additional records may also be found in municipal archives, the State Archives of Venice, diocesan archives, and local parishes.

I can assist with locating and obtaining Italian birth, marriage, and death certificates, extracts, and full copies of civil records, as well as historical family records, military records, parish records, and other documents useful for genealogy, Italian citizenship, probate, inheritance, and family history research.

Municipalities in the Province of Venice (Venezia)

The Metropolitan City of Venice includes the following municipalities:

Annone Veneto, Campagna Lupia, Campolongo Maggiore, Camponogara, Caorle, Cavallino-Treporti, Cavarzere, Ceggia, Chioggia, Cinto Caomaggiore, Cona, Concordia Sagittaria, Dolo, Eraclea, Fiesso d'Artico, Fossalta di Piave, Fossalta di Portogruaro, Fossò, Gruaro, Jesolo, Marcon, Martellago, Meolo, Mira, Mirano, Musile di Piave, Noale, Noventa di Piave, Pianiga, Portogruaro, Pramaggiore, Quarto d'Altino, Salzano, San Donà di Piave, San Michele al Tagliamento, San Stino di Livenza, Santa Maria di Sala, Scorzè, Spinea, Stra, Teglio Veneto, Torre di Mosto, Venice (Venezia), and Vigonovo.

Former Municipalities and Municipal Changes in the Province of Venice (Venezia)

Historical place names and changes in municipal boundaries are particularly important in genealogical research in the Venice area. Older civil, parish, military, and archival records may identify an ancestor's place of origin under a historical name or under a municipality whose territory has subsequently changed.

Cavallino-Treporti – Cavallino-Treporti became an independent municipality in 1999 when its territory was separated from the Municipality of Venice. Genealogical records created before the establishment of the new municipality may therefore be associated with Venice rather than Cavallino-Treporti.

Jesolo – Historical records may identify the municipality by its former name Cavazuccherina. The present name Jesolo was adopted in the twentieth century, making Cavazuccherina an important historical place name when researching older civil, parish, military, and family records.

Eraclea – The municipality was historically known as Grisolera. Older genealogical and civil records may therefore refer to Grisolera rather than the modern name Eraclea.

Quarto d'Altino – Historical documents may use the former name San Michele del Quarto. Researchers working with nineteenth- and early twentieth-century records should therefore consider both names when identifying the correct municipality.

San Stino di Livenza – Historical records may contain variations in the spelling and official form of the municipal name. Older documents can therefore require careful identification of the locality and its historical administrative jurisdiction.

The territory of the present Metropolitan City of Venice also includes areas with complex historical administrative and ecclesiastical jurisdictions. For genealogical research, it may therefore be necessary to determine not only the modern municipality but also the municipality, parish, diocese, or archive responsible for the locality during the period being researched.

When necessary, I can identify the correct present-day municipality, archive, or parish responsible for records relating to an ancestor whose place of birth, marriage, residence, or death appears under an older geographical or administrative name.

Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Verona

I provide professional genealogy and family history research throughout the Province of Verona, including on-site research when records are not available online.

Birth, marriage, and death records may be held by the Civil Registration Office (Ufficio dello Stato Civile) of the municipality where the event was registered. Depending on the period and the type of research, additional records may also be found in municipal archives, the State Archives of Verona, diocesan archives, and local parishes.

I can assist with locating and obtaining Italian birth, marriage, and death certificates, extracts, and full copies of civil records, as well as historical family records, military records, parish records, and other documents useful for genealogy, Italian citizenship, probate, inheritance, and family history research.

Municipalities in the Province of Verona

The Province of Verona includes the following municipalities:

Affi, Albaredo d'Adige, Angiari, Arcole, Badia Calavena, Bardolino, Belfiore, Bevilacqua, Bonavigo, Boschi Sant'Anna, Bosco Chiesanuova, Bovolone, Brentino Belluno, Brenzone sul Garda, Bussolengo, Buttapietra, Caldiero, Caprino Veronese, Casaleone, Castagnaro, Castel d'Azzano, Castelnuovo del Garda, Cavaion Veronese, Cazzano di Tramigna, Cerea, Cerro Veronese, Cologna Veneta, Colognola ai Colli, Concamarise, Costermano sul Garda, Dolcè, Erbè, Erbezzo, Ferrara di Monte Baldo, Fumane, Garda, Gazzo Veronese, Grezzana, Illasi, Isola della Scala, Isola Rizza, Lavagno, Lazise, Legnago, Malcesine, Marano di Valpolicella, Mezzane di Sotto, Minerbe, Montecchia di Crosara, Monteforte d'Alpone, Mozzecane, Negrar di Valpolicella, Nogara, Nogarole Rocca, Oppeano, Palù, Pastrengo, Pescantina, Peschiera del Garda, Povegliano Veronese, Pressana, Rivoli Veronese, Roncà, Ronco all'Adige, Roverchiara, Roverè Veronese, Roveredo di Guà, Salizzole, San Bonifacio, San Giovanni Ilarione, San Giovanni Lupatoto, San Martino Buon Albergo, San Mauro di Saline, San Pietro di Morubio, San Pietro in Cariano, San Zeno di Montagna, Sanguinetto, Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo, Selva di Progno, Soave, Sommacampagna, Sona, Sorgà, Terrazzo, Torri del Benaco, Tregnago, Trevenzuolo, Valeggio sul Mincio, Velo Veronese, Verona, Veronella, Vestenanova, Vigasio, Villa Bartolomea, Villafranca di Verona, Zevio, and Zimella.

Former Municipalities and Municipal Changes in the Province of Verona

Historical municipal names and changes in administrative boundaries can be particularly important in genealogical research. Older birth, marriage, death, residence, military, and parish records may identify a place using a former municipal name or an older geographical designation.

Negrar di Valpolicella – The municipality was officially known as Negrar until its name was changed to Negrar di Valpolicella. Historical civil, parish, military, and family records may therefore identify an ancestor's place of origin simply as Negrar.

Costermano sul Garda – The municipality was historically known as Costermano. Researchers working with older records should therefore consider both Costermano and the present name Costermano sul Garda.

Brenzone sul Garda – Historical documents may identify the municipality simply as Brenzone, its former official name. The modern designation Brenzone sul Garda should therefore not be expected in older genealogical records.

Torri del Benaco – Older records may contain the historical name Torri di Benaco, making variations in the municipal designation relevant when searching indexes and archival sources.

The Province of Verona also contains numerous localities whose administrative or ecclesiastical jurisdiction has changed over time. In older genealogical sources, the place named in a record may therefore not correspond exactly to the modern municipality responsible for the same territory.

Correct identification of historical jurisdictions can be particularly important for records predating modern civil registration, when parish and diocesan archives may be the principal sources for births and baptisms, marriages, and deaths.

When necessary, I can identify the correct present-day municipality, archive, or parish responsible for records relating to an ancestor whose place of birth, marriage, residence, or death appears under an older geographical or administrative name.

Genealogy Research and Vital Records in the Province of Vicenza

I provide professional genealogy and family history research throughout the Province of Vicenza, including on-site research when records are not available online.

Birth, marriage, and death records may be held by the Civil Registration Office (Ufficio dello Stato Civile) of the municipality where the event was registered. Depending on the period and the type of research, additional records may also be found in municipal archives, the State Archives of Vicenza, diocesan archives, and local parishes.

I can assist with locating and obtaining Italian birth, marriage, and death certificates, extracts, and full copies of civil records, as well as historical family records, military records, parish records, and other documents useful for genealogy, Italian citizenship, probate, inheritance, and family history research.

Municipalities in the Province of Vicenza

The Province of Vicenza includes the following municipalities:

Agugliaro, Albettone, Alonte, Altavilla Vicentina, Altissimo, Arcugnano, Arsiero, Arzignano, Asiago, Asigliano Veneto, Barbarano Mossano, Bassano del Grappa, Bolzano Vicentino, Breganze, Brendola, Bressanvido, Brogliano, Caldogno, Caltrano, Calvene, Camisano Vicentino, Campiglia dei Berici, Carrè, Cartigliano, Cassola, Castegnero Nanto, Castelgomberto, Chiampo, Chiuppano, Cogollo del Cengio, Colceresa, Cornedo Vicentino, Costabissara, Creazzo, Crespadoro, Dueville, Enego, Fara Vicentino, Foza, Gallio, Gambellara, Grisignano di Zocco, Grumolo delle Abbadesse, Isola Vicentina, Laghi, Lastebasse, Longare, Lonigo, Lugo di Vicenza, Lusiana Conco, Malo, Marano Vicentino, Marostica, Monte di Malo, Montebello Vicentino, Montecchio Maggiore, Montecchio Precalcino, Montegalda, Montegaldella, Monteviale, Monticello Conte Otto, Montorso Vicentino, Mussolente, Nogarole Vicentino, Noventa Vicentina, Orgiano, Pedemonte, Pianezze, Piovene Rocchette, Pojana Maggiore, Posina, Pove del Grappa, Pozzoleone, Quinto Vicentino, Recoaro Terme, Roana, Romano d'Ezzelino, Rosà, Rossano Veneto, Rotzo, Salcedo, San Pietro Mussolino, San Vito di Leguzzano, Sandrigo, Santorso, Sarcedo, Sarego, Schiavon, Schio, Solagna, Sossano, Sovizzo, Tezze sul Brenta, Thiene, Tonezza del Cimone, Torrebelvicino, Torri di Quartesolo, Trissino, Val Liona, Valbrenta, Valdagno, Valdastico, Valli del Pasubio, Velo d'Astico, Vicenza, Villaga, Villaverla, Zanè, Zermeghedo, Zovencedo, and Zugliano.

Former Municipalities and Municipal Changes in the Province of Vicenza

Historical municipal changes are particularly important in genealogical research in the Province of Vicenza. A birth, marriage, death, residence, military, or parish record may have been created under the name of a municipality that no longer exists independently.

Barbarano Mossano – The municipality of Barbarano Mossano was established in 2018 through the merger of the former municipalities of Barbarano Vicentino and Mossano. Historical records may therefore be registered under either of these former municipalities.

Colceresa – The municipality of Colceresa was established in 2019 through the merger of the former municipalities of Mason Vicentino and Molvena. Records created before the merger may therefore refer to Mason Vicentino or Molvena rather than Colceresa.

Lusiana Conco – The municipality of Lusiana Conco was established in 2019 through the merger of the former municipalities of Lusiana and Conco. Older civil, parish, military, and family records may therefore identify either of these former municipalities.

Valbrenta – The municipality of Valbrenta was established in 2019 through the merger of the former municipalities of Campolongo sul Brenta, Cismon del Grappa, San Nazario, and Valstagna. These four historical municipal names remain particularly important when researching families from the Brenta Valley.

Val Liona – The municipality of Val Liona was established in 2017 through the merger of the former municipalities of Grancona and San Germano dei Berici. Historical records may therefore be registered under either Grancona or San Germano dei Berici.

Sovizzo – The present municipality of Sovizzo was established through the merger of the former municipalities of Sovizzo and Gambugliano, effective from 2024. Genealogical records created before the merger may therefore identify Gambugliano as an independent municipality.

Castegnero Nanto – The municipality of Castegnero Nanto was established in 2026 through the merger of the former municipalities of Castegnero and Nanto. For genealogical research, records created before the merger will normally be associated with Castegnero or Nanto rather than the new municipal name.

These administrative changes can affect where historical records are preserved today and how places are identified in civil registers, parish registers, military records, population registers, and archival sources.

When necessary, I can identify the correct present-day municipality, archive, or parish responsible for records relating to an ancestor whose place of birth, marriage, residence, or death appears under an older geographical or administrative name.
